AFRICAN PLAYERS SHORTLISTLED FOR NBA AWARDS
Three players of African descent have been shortlisted for honours in the NBA Awards coming up next month. They are Nigerian-American Victor Oladipo, Swiss-Congolese Clint Capela and Cameroonian Joel Embiid.
In the defensive player of the year category, Joel Embiid will contend against Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert. Meanwhile, the fray for the most improved player of the year will go down among the trio of Victor Oladipo, Clint Capela and Spencer Dinwiddie.
Only two players of African descent have won the defensive player of the year award in the past. They are Dikembe Mutombo and Hakeem Olajuwon. Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounpo won the most improved player of the year in 2017.
